Big focus for July is Career Conversations.
Leaders engage in conversations all the time – induction, feedback, coaching, change, and performance conversations just to name a few.
This week I’ve been thrilled to be able to help leaders in two different organisations start having more Career Conversations.
According to the research done by Right Management and published in their report “How Ongoing Career Conversations Drive Business Success”, employees reported that if Career Conversations were more regular:
82% would be more engaged in the work they do
78% would be more likely to share ideas
76% would be more likely to look for opportunities for career growth at their current employer
75% would be more likely to stay with their current employer
Whoa! That’s huge, especially with high number of vacancies and the low number of applicants many organisations are experiencing.
The good news is that 89% of employees believe they need to be responsible for their careers, so you are well poised to have a series (not one and done!) of conversations.
So where do you start? How about:
What work tasks have you enjoyed most in the last six months?
What would you like to do more of?
What would you like to do less of?
See where that takes you and from there build an action plan together.
