Quiet Quitting is back in the headlines.
So far I’ve only come across press releases over the last few days quoting the statistic that 22% of New Zealand businesses have noticed this in their organisations. Is anyone talking about what to do about it?
And I just heard on the RNZ’s Morning Report that it’s something to note. I think it’s something to action.
It’s a number that feels like it could grow (like mould!) if leaders don’t take a minute to reflect on what they could do to re-engage their people to their work, their teams, their customers, and the wider organisation.
Here’s an easy, free-to-implement next step if you’re wondering if someone on your team is quietly quitting: Have a one-to-one conversation and ask them some questions!
Wondering where to start? How about:
👏 What have been your highlights from the last month?
👎 What have been your lowlights from the last month?
🙌 Looking ahead to the next month, what are you excited about?
😬 What’s on the horizon that you’re dreading?
Dear reader, what questions would you add?
You’re not promising the moon or that every day will be filled with rainbows and unicorns. You’re listening to understand, without judgement.
Be prepared to learn more about your team member’s experience instead of finding out via a resignation letter or when you’re forced to start a Performance Improvement Plan.
And yes, I do know that I put Quiet Quitting in my headline. 😉
