Super Models We Love

Some super models just stand the test of time… Naomi Campbell (53), Christy Turlington (54), Cindy Crawford (57), Linda Evangelista (58) and Bruce Tuckman’s Team Development Model (58).

In 1965, Bruce Tuckman introduced the Team Development Model which you might recognise as Forming, Storming, Norming and Performing.  A few years later he added the Adjourning stage.

This morning at Workshop #3 ‘Leading Teams’ of a New Leaders Programme we went through the team’s typical – but non-linear – journey through the different stages. Our kōrero focused on the purpose of each stage, the leadership actions you could take and the impact of taking those actions.

A comment by one of the participants really stood out to me.  He said “I’ve been through all of these and never realised they had a name.”  The fact that these stages are so recognisable and experiential is what continues to keep Mr. Tuckman’s model relevant.

Below is a summary of our conversation.  It’s not complete and it never will be however it’ll provide you with starting point to a few good team conversations.

And if you’re looking for ways to develop your leaders or enhance a team’s development, please get in touch!  My calendar for 2024 is now open.
